Dream gifts for gardeners

November 30, 2018

First we covered practical gifts for gardeners, but now we head to dream gifts: the amazing, the luxurious and the downright absurd. There is one gift that I didn’t have a proper illustration for that… [Continue Reading]

The first days in the spring garden

May 3, 2018

The first real days in the garden are special. The jobs at this time of year are not particularly exciting or interesting, but I usually write about them anyway because being back in the garden… [Continue Reading]

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE GARDEN

May 4, 2016

I got a message from a friend and blog reader the other day who asked, “How come you aren’t blogging about planting?” It’s a fair question, this being primarily a gardening blog. The fact of… [Continue Reading]

FAILURE, AND SUCCESS, COMES EARLY

April 20, 2016

We’re well into seed-starting season at this point. I can tell because I’m bored with it. Well, not bored with it, but it is lot of work to check on those little guys multiple times… [Continue Reading]

A BUSY AND HOT TIME IN THE GARDEN

May 22, 2015

Sorry I’ve been blogging so intermittently lately; things are busier than I would like and I have been working on this week’s window box post for a really long time! Anyway, allow me to catch… [Continue Reading]

About

The Impatient Gardener

Do you love gardening? Me too! I'm Erin and I garden in Southeastern Wisconsin, zone 5. The Impatient Gardener is all about real-life gardening: the good parts, the bad bits and even the funny stuff. It's part information, part inspiration and a little bit commiseration. Thanks for visiting.

Here's some more about me.

  • Espalier Asian pear with Tuff Stuff hydrangea serrata planted on the fireplace. More espalier to come this year and I’m more than a little excited. Just trying to decide on varieties and shapes.

  • I just want so many sweet peas that I can fill my house with bouquets in every room so that their sweet scent will float in the air. Is that too much to ask? Let’s hope not, but they are finicky buggers. In a few weeks I’ll be sowing oodles of them because some plants just get priority, you know?

  • I love this ‘Dalmatian Peach’ foxglove. If you start the seeds early enough you get blooms the first year. I sowed seeds for this (probably from this very plant) yesterday. I hope to have a large stand of them. Foxgloves look better when they are having a party in my opinion.
