Oh for a watering wand that doesn’t leak!

June 3, 2009

Welcome to my biggest of all gardening pet peeves: Leaky hose nozzles. I’m so irritated with having water dripping down my air every time I try to water. Every year I buy one or more… [Continue Reading]

An update to the tragedy (see below)

June 3, 2009

Just heard back from Lucile. Here’s what she said: “Cut hard. Down into the green wood and pray.” Gulp.

A garden tragedy

June 3, 2009

I’ve been keeping an eye on this all spring, and hoping things would be fine, but it’s not looking good. Last spring I bought a gorgeous Kamagata Japanese maple from Lucile at Whitman Farms. I… [Continue Reading]

What we won’t do for plants

June 1, 2009

I caught my mother rubbing her eggplant this weekend. Relax, it’s OK, really. She was just giving it a little leaf massage. Seems she read “somewhere” that massaging the leaves will make it produce better…. [Continue Reading]

The woods comes alive

June 1, 2009

It always amazes me how quickly the wooded area of our property is taken over by Ostrich ferns. May 8 May 14 May 31 (pay no attention to the path of inflourescence-looking stuff. I spread… [Continue Reading]

157 … and counting

May 30, 2009

The scene of the crime. And this isn’t even all of them! Do they offer plantaholic 12-step programs? I’m seriously thinking I may need to find one. Noticing that my “holding area” (formerly the pit… [Continue Reading]

Our Master Gardeners Heirloom Plant and Herb Sale was held May 23 and I was in charge of door prizes and gift bags, which means that I got to call up companies during one of… [Continue Reading]

About

The Impatient Gardener

Do you love gardening? Me too! I'm Erin and I garden in Southeastern Wisconsin, zone 5. The Impatient Gardener is all about real-life gardening: the good parts, the bad bits and even the funny stuff. It's part information, part inspiration and a little bit commiseration. Thanks for visiting.

Here's some more about me.

The morning sun makes Aralia ‘Silver Umbrella’ glow. This is a very difficult to find grafted, variegated variety that perfectly hugs the north corner of our deck. Below it Incrediball hydrangea is starting to form flower buds.
I got my new drone last night and had just enough battery power to quickly throw it up for a herky jerky first run. It’s nothing fancy and I wasn’t really trying to film anything in particular but thought you might enjoy the view, particularly of the climbing hydrangea, which is looking gorgeous.
Let’s take a closer look at a little corner of the garden just off the patio. It will be a couple weeks before it’s really coming into its own. Swipe for closeups and names of what’s all here. Somehow the dahlias I put here didn’t end up in any pictures, but I have a short orange dahlia called Melody Swing planted in here as well.
Why yes, that is Swiss chard growing right at the front of my patio bed with all the dahlias and nicotiana and other goodies. And, assuming I can fend off ambitious rabbits or other critters, I think it’s going to be really good. Stay tuned. 😀
