So who is this Impatient Gardener person anyway?
My name is Erin and I live and garden in Southeastern Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. I'm a master gardener who is constantly learning about gardening (it's one of the great things about gardening—you can never know it all). My husband and I live in a cottage with our two Newfoundland dogs and our eternally offended cat.
Why so impatient?
My husband calls it "HGTV Syndrome." It's the belief that anything can be accomplished in 30 minutes (or less, factoring in commercial breaks). When I set my mind to a project I want it done now. And that's why gardening has been good for me. Anyone who gardens knows that patience comes with the territory. No amount of stewing, pacing or hoping is going to make a climbing hydrangea grow any faster than it's going to grow. I'm still impatient, but I'm working on it.
What is this blog all about?
When The Impatient Gardener started in April 2009, it was all about gardening, and that was fine for awhile. But then winter came and let's be honest, there isn't a lot of gardening to write about in Wisconsin in winter. Around this time I also discovered so many great decorating blogs, many of them with tutorials that I used in various projects. That got me thinking that people might enjoy reading about some of the trials and tribulations involved in sprucing up this 1936 house. We're not experts, but I'd call us proficient DIYers who know when to call in the professionals. Either way, we've learned a lot through the various projects we've taken on or hired out and I enjoy sharing the good and the bad.
Is this blog your job?
Nope. I'm an editor at SAILING Magazine, which keeps me more than busy enough, but the blog gives me the opportunity to write about something else, which is a nice change of pace. SAILING is another thing I love to do but it's more of a lifestyle than a hobby or sport for me. If you ever want to chat about sailing, how to learn to sail, where to sail or anything else about the sport, drop me an e-mail at impatientgardener (at) gmail.com.
Occasionally I take on freelance writing and editing jobs for magazines, newspapers and authors. If you have a project or story you'd like my help with or an article you'd like me to write, please email me. I'd love to talk with you about it.
Do you accept guest posts or paid affiliate links?
I love guest posts from other bloggers who have something to write about that my readers might be interested in and I'd love to work with you on something like that. However, I don't accept posts from companies that are full of affiliate links to their product under any circumstances (so even if you offer to pay me to run these, I won't).
What's your policy on product reviews?
I enjoy doing product reviews for products that pertain to something relevant to this blog. Usually I buy a product and end up falling in love with it and writing about it on the blog, but if you are a company with a product you think I'd like, get in touch with me. Of course I'll follow FCC regulations and make it clear when a product has been provided for review and I'll give my honest opinion about it. To be fair, I'll just say upfront that I'm probably not going to write a review of a product I really don't like. That does nobody any good.
