MY FAVORITE GIVEAWAYS: THE PERFECT HOSE

Share:

Every day this week I’m giving away one of my favorite gardening tools. I’ve written about all of them and I’m hoping that whoever the lucky winner of each item is will share my enthusiasm and fall just as in love with these tools as I am.

I’m kicking off this big week by giving away a hose. OK, I’ll admit, hoses aren’t flashy and they aren’t the most exciting things in the world, but I’d be willing to bet that most gardeners use them more than any other tool in their garden. And if you’ve ever had a bad hose, you know how frustrating they can be.

Here’s what I require in a hose: It needs to be light enough to move around easily, but large enough to have enough water flow to power a water wand or sprinkler (I briefly tried one of those light, skinny garden hoses and I could even use my water wand with it because there wasn’t enough water pressure). It needs to have heavy-duty brass ends that last and don’t leak. Crucially, a hose must not kink. On the scale of terrifically frustrating things, a kink down the line of your hose is right up there with metal folding chair legs that insist on intermingling.

I found the Tuff-Guard Perfect Garden Hose four years ago and I’ve been using the same two since then. Having and intensely using a hose for four years is a first for me, so in addition to having all the attributes that I require in a hose, it also has longevity. I can’t tell you how nice it is to pull a hose out of the garage in spring and know that it’s just going to work. It’s not going to leak or have developed a random hole or somehow grown a kink that will not come out no matter what over winter.

I’ve written about this hose before, including here and here.

The nice folks at the Perfect Garden Hose have agreed to give away a 50-foot hose in any color to one lucky winner. I have boring old gray so that it blends in with the patio a little better when I get lazy and don’t coil it up, but it comes in a bunch of fun colors.

Entering is easy: Just use the Rafflecopter widget below to log in and then leave a comment (go to the bottom of the post and look for the highlighted # of posts link) telling me what color you want your hose to be or just what your favorite color is. Additional entries can be gained through other tasks in the widget. I’ll pick a winner on May 5.

  1. Yes yes yes! We just bought a Craftsmen hose, after trying so many over the years. I have continued to search, and read reviews, but it's hard to know exactly what other people want from a hose! You I trust…so yes, put me in for this and here's hoping. Great giveaway (and, in case I don't win, nice to know this brand!)

  2. I have never seen a pink hose! I love it! But perhaps my husband (who gardens even more than I do) would appreciate the grey! Thanks so much!

  3. Pink would be fun. I'm very particular about my hoses too. I've been using the Flexzilla ones and those are still working well, but this is only year 2 for them, so I'm still testing them… Thanks! -Beth

  4. I need to replace the hose in my front yard, this is such great timing. Fingers crossed, because I'd love a red one in the absence of orange. Thanks for the chance, and the recommendation.

  5. Hi Erin! I was wondering how you store your hose? Or other readers – any tips? Not only have I tried a bunch of hoses, but I have tried every which way to store my hose and it always seems like a frustration. I have tried a pretty metal hose pot (the bottom rusted on my patio), the hose reel boxes (that always fall over), the stake in the ground (which always comes out). I changed to a plastic flower pot on my patio which won't rust, but it always tips over. Have you found a better way??

    1. Oh the hose storage problem is definitely a pain! I found a metal hose pot (I've not had problems with rusting) that has worked out better than anything else I've tried. The one thing with the Perfect Garden Hose is that it is springy so you really do need to keep it contained in some way because it doesn't want to lay on the ground in a perfect coil. But that spring also helps it pull out of the hose pot quite smoothly so the pot doesn't fall over unless I'm really yanking on it.

  6. This isn't an entry, so should I win please choose someone else!
I understand being crazy particular about hoses. They're one of those things that you don't realize what a pain in the ass they are until you really have a good one! Thanks for the heads up on this company.

  7. Oh I need one! My nice heavy duty hose is 100' long, which makes it just too unwieldy. I think red, so my husband won't mow it when I leave it in the grass!

  8. This would be great for the front porch where there are lots of containers. The blue would be a nice change from the earth tone hoses we've had over the years. Good luck, everyone!
